Consent letter (NOC) for GST registration
The letter the owner of your premises signs when the place of business is not in your name.
When you would use this
You are applying for GST registration from premises you do not own and have no rent agreement for — a home you live in but which is in a parent or spouse's name, or space lent by a relative or a company. The GST officer will ask for the owner's consent along with proof that they own it.
What goes wrong with this one
The document is the easy part. These are the things we actually see get it rejected or cause a problem later.
- The name on the consent letter must match the name on the ownership proof exactly. A mismatch is the most common reason this document is rejected.
- Attach the ownership proof — the latest electricity bill, municipal tax receipt or property document — in the same upload. A consent letter on its own proves nothing.
- Plain paper is accepted in most states. Some officers ask for stamp paper. It costs little to use stamp paper if you are unsure, and re-filing costs a fortnight.
- Date it before you file, not after. A consent dated after the application looks like it was produced to answer a query.
The template
Every placeholder is written in [SQUARE BRACKETS] so an unfilled one is impossible to miss in a printed document.
